These were the words uttered by Neil Armstrong as his foot touched the surface of the moon for the very first time. The Moon’s gravity, the astronaut suit; everything was new and different – it was pretty much a blind step forward. But that small step that is now maybe insignificant to some (next to enthusiastic steps which followed after) started off a new page in the history of mankind.

One can only imagine the numbers that gathered around the few that had television sets, ogling at the not-so-clear screens to see a man in a white suit walking the moon. From that day on, man descended several times more on the Moon. Not only that – he started building space stations, sent numerous probes off to Mars and a myriad of unnamed vehicles which constantly send information back to Earth.

At the start of the New Year loads of people promise themselves a better future-self. Many look back on the past year and wonder what they could have done. Some of these grand plans, however, end up being nothing more than meager weight-loss schemes or small-time decisions affecting our appearance. On the other hand there’s a good number of people who take the New Year resolutions to heart in order to truly better themselves.

I was reading a blog not so long ago about these resolutions, and someone left a comment stating that he had changed so many things over the past year he had no idea where to start. And I now come back to Armstrong’s first step – small yet hugely significant if its true meaning is kept in mind. The same goes for our Resolution. Some of them may seem like a drop in the ocean, but let us keep in mind that each ocean is made up of many little droplets and each small step could be a giant leap in the history of your life – peace be with you.
